WHY: A Celebration Honoring All Men & Women Past and Present In The Military
Bio:
The idea of having a special performance dedicated to our military “Veterans Day Celebration” began during a summer meeting with Band & Orchestra’s IMC (Instrumental Music Council) members. “Probably everyone knows someone served in the military services. This day was set aside many years ago to honor those who have risked or lost their lives to secure our freedom. I think the last time we had a concert commemorating these men and woman was seventeen years ago when I taught at Alief middle school. Many military representatives from our area attended that day and a lot of student understood what Veterans Day really meant after that. We believe that this concert can touch a lot of people and also be a way to reach out to the Alief community” –Marty Koran orchestra director. With great words of encouragement, IMC members then agreed that the idea of including Choir, Speech, and Theatre in the performance would not only make this celebration a great success, but combine our talents into one great performance. It wasn’t to long until the teachers in each department got together in a meeting to discuss more about the concert. Students from each department continue to work hard during and after school to make this concert memorable to our audience. Come out and learn about the day of our military.
At 5:30pm we will have military demonstrations, food, face painting, and fun at Taylor high school patio. This is the perfect time to bring children out in the sun and enjoy themselves.
At 7:00 P.M., the concert celebration will begin with saying the pledge and singing the Star Spangled Banner. A speech will then be made by a representative of speech dept informing everyone events about Veteran’s Day. For those who know, it will refresh their memory but for anyone who doesn’t understand will receive great information. Children can also be informed of how important Veterans Day really is as well. Also the theatre dept will perform demonstrations taken by a veteran’s actual experience. Next we will hear music from KHS departments Band, Orchestra, and choir. Their performance groups will be performing music literature such as our national march, Stars And Stripes Forever, and each military branch theme songs Salute to America’s finest. There will also be a special presentation performed by choir and full Orchestra combined. Through our music we can create a picture of true patriotism, honor and sacrifice.
Kerr Hs wants everyone in the community to come out and join us in our celebration
