I found Toku Sushi while driving down Westheimer. My wife and I were craving some sushi and was VERY skeptical, especially since Houston is full of sushi places. But because my wife really wanted to give it a try, I reluctantly pulled in.
Great news - It was very good! The sushi rolls there were creative and very tasty. Sure they have the staples like California and Unagi Eel rolls, but they also had crazy stuff like the Fujiyama 2.0 (sorry if I got the name wrong) and the OMG (a sampler of fusion sushi). What I also liked about the place was that it also had non-sushi dishes like Lamb Chops and Chilean Miso Sea Bass.
The owner, Ray was very gracious and went to every table to make sure everyone was happy with the quality of food. The staff was great and more importantly, my wife was impressed.
My wife and I have been to many sushi restaurants in Houston and we've seen the ups and downs. Although Toku Sushi is fairly new, I feel that because of their way of thinking outside the box and being innovators rather than followers, they will be a good contender in Houston. I know for sure, we'll be back!
Give it a try!
