I know crime has risen dramatically in SW Houston and West Houston. More police is the short term answer but long term, I think we need to do something about the New Orleans people. Their welcome is overdue and they need to go. Whether they are the main culprits or not, they are part of the big problem.

How bad is it in Sugar Land? Are doors being kick down and car being jack left and right?

Actually crime is not bad in Sugar Land or else it won't be the 3rd best place to live in the U.S.
There are some issues with people being followed home from shopping and robbed, particularly Asians because the crooks thinks they have money.
Other crimes occur in places like Alief, Missouri City, Sharpstown, west of the Beltway. Yes these places are highly concentrated with Katrina folks. They can say all they want but we can see what they can't.
I live in Sugar Land and to me it is a very nice place.

Thanks madmax,
What is been done about the situtation. Hiring more cops, neighborhood watch? Even street cameras?

I know Sugar Land's Police dept is one of the best in the nation. They are focusing on the hotter areas and that has led to a slight decrease in crime. Houston police is also doing that so everyone knows about these hot spots and a lot of the resources are being used in these areas.
Good you mentioned street cameras. Yes, they are becoming prevalent everywhere. Word is that they will be tied together into one central place and be monitored. Don't have a time frame but this will happen.
Lastly, there is a group called the Asian American Business Council of Houston and their main goal is to establish a neighborhood, security watch progam throughout Chinatown which is located in Southwest Houston. This is a very good idea as we are the ones fighting in the front lines against crime. Sometimes I wish we can take matters into our own hands and use a little bit of street justice.

I think crime is rising all over Houston, not just an area. Not enough police, influx of criminals from the East all have contributed to the problem.

If you guys read the article on ChinatownConnection.com: www.chinatownconnection.com/houston-galleria-robbery.htm you will notice that it happens in the nicest areas of town too. I think the mayor needs to do something about this crime problem we are all experiencing because it is ridiculous!
